About The Town of North Hills
North Hills is an upscale, incorporated town of approximately 312 families or about 1200 persons located in Wood County, West Virginia; the “town” is managed by a mayor, town recorder, and five councilpersons; all are elected positions. The mayor and town recorder are the only two paid elected positions. The town also employs Steve Hardman, a town resident, for legal advice and action. Security issues and needs are handled by the Wood County Sheriff’s Office or on occasion by the WV State Police. Fire and emergency response is administered via the Waverly Volunteer Fire Department. Water supply and sanitary treatment are administered by the Williams Public Water District.
The passion of the current mayor and council is to promote and maintain the Town of North Hills as the Ohio Valley’s choice for raising a family or spending one’s senior years in a low crime area. Emphasis is on protecting and improving the infrastructure needs of the town, enhanced and continued beautification of the facilities and landscape, and sponsorship of activities that bring the community together.
The Town of North Hills is located approximately 1.4 miles west of Interstate 77 on Route 2 and is located about midway between the Interstate and the Ohio River. Commercially, it is served by the cities of Vienna, Parkersburg, and Marietta. It is served by two airports; Robb Wilson Airport (which has direct flights to Cleveland Ohio) which can be driven to in 10 minutes and Chuck Yeager Airport at Charleston, West Virginia which takes about 80 driving minutes. Major city drive times are Columbus, Ohio at 2.5 hours: Cleveland, Ohio at 3 hours; and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at 3 hours.
North Hills has a garden club that came together to enhance their knowledge of gardening, its beauty, and its effects. The North Hills garden club is special: the garden club cultivates much enjoyment in reflecting the special interests of its members. Programs, activities and projects are encouraged to further develop those special interests.
Located within the town but a separate entity is the North Hills Swim and Racquet club, which maintains a fenced in tennis court and an outdoor pool for members. For more information go to their Facebook page titled “North Hills Swim and Racquet club.”
The local schools that are “in district” for the public school system are: Vienna Elementary school, Jackson Middle school, and Parkersburg High School. There are also a number of private schools which include but not limited to, Parkersburg Catholic High School, Parkersburg Catholic Elementary School, North Christian School, Parkersburg Academy, Parkersburg Christian School, and Wood County Christian School. Within a very short drive there is also Marietta College and Washington State Community College, both located in Marietta Ohio.
